How to clean the pool filter?

The filtration system of the garden pool is one of its most important elements. Why? Thanks to it, it is possible to remove dirt (leaves, hair, sand, etc.) that have a negative impact on the quality of the pool water. In addition, the filter pump forces the movement of water, preventing the formation of congestion, which is an ideal environment for the development of algae. Therefore, already at the stage of buying a basin, you need to think about what pump for the pool will be the best solution. The “heart” of any pump is a filter that needs to be replaced or cleaned regularly. In this article we will tell you how to clean the pool filter and what should be the frequency of its replacement. 

When is it worth cleaning the pool filter?

Before answering the question of how to clean the filter in the pool, let’s explain what types of filters you have at your disposal. Depending on the filter pump you choose, you can buy sand or paper filters – these are the two most popular solutions. Paper filters are recommended primarily for small basins. Their advantage is the low price (approx. PLN 10 / piece), high efficiency and easy availability. The paper filter is recommended to be replaced approximately every 14 – 20 days, but this is an individual matter, depending largely on how often you use the pool. The more intensively the pool is used, the more dirt there will be. Therefore, it may be necessary to replace the filter more often. 

From time to time, such a paper filter should also be rinsed very thoroughly. You can do this with the help of a stream of water from an ordinary garden hose, but before you start any work, disconnect the pump from the power supply. Remember – do not neglect the cleanliness of pool filters. It is not only the pleasure of bathing in clean water that is at stake, but above all: your health and safety!

How often to clean the pool sand filter?

For larger garden pools, sand filter pumps are usually used. It is more expensive than a paper filter, but has a longer service life. Replacement of sand is, as a rule, necessary every two years. Wondering how to clean the sand filter in the pool? First: you need to do it regularly. The optimal frequency of rinsing the filter is once every few days. In the case of larger dirt, it is necessary to increase it. Usually, a sand filter has a pressure gauge that shows its status. If the pointer is in the yellow field or approaching the red field, rinse the filter immediately.

How to clean the pool filter from sand?

Cleaning the pool sand filter is relatively simple. All you have to do is use the appropriate functionalities and the sand pump flushing system by performing the so-called backwashing. Before you start rinsing the sand filter, carefully read the instructions that came with the pump and see how to do this according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The instructions for cleaning the pool sand filter should indicate what actions you need to perform in turn. Most often, the instruction presents in turn the selection of appropriate values on the pump valve. Thanks to flushing the filter, it is possible to effectively remove dirt accumulated in it. Cleaning and repairing the pool sand filter is a priority for maintaining the proper quality of the pool water.
